Hon Lagen David speaks on Social Assistance for the Elderly (SAGE) while reaching out to the most vulnerable elderly in Agago County during festive Season and pledged to continue prompting the government to implement the program effectively in Agago
In Agago, older persons contribute immensely to the creation of wealth, support and care of orphans and other vulnerable children, creation of social cohesion and conflict resolution in their communities. An older person is associated not just by age but with certain qualities and traits that are observed in a person in the later stages of life. The Agago county member of parliament says under this section of SAGE, he is to work closely with the government and the district leaders to ensure various activities are carried out which includes; holding of the district older persons council and executive meetings, Monitoring of older persons activities, lobbing for relief for the most vulnerable older persons and the Social Assistance Grants for Empowerment all to be extended to the rightful beneficiaries respectively.
Hon Lagen who is also a member of the presidential affairs committee says, the government of Uganda under the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development with support from development partners (DFID and Irish Aid) is implementing the Social Assistance Grant for Empowerment (SAGE) in all the districts of Uganda and therefore it calls for team work and absolute unity amongst we the leaders of Acholi to be devoted make engagements with the government. SAGE is a unit under the Program Management Unit (PMU) that oversee all these activities. SAGE program started in 2010 with a pilot covering 15 districts and extended to 20 districts in 2015 including Agago district targeting 100 older persons per Sub County but the number of the beneficiaries has gradually increased and that is a concern he is to immensely raise on the flow of August House. Therefore its a courtesy call to ensure no elderly persons is left out on the program. Lawang Lutedero #2026
